Green Power Panay Philippines Inc (GPPPI) have submitted all required documents including their Project Design Document (PDD), Sustainable Development Impact Assessment and Stakeholders Consultation report as well as other documentary requirements seeking the Philippine Governments' Designated National Authority (DNA) approval to apply for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) support. The application was made through the Department of the Environment and National Resources (DENR) Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) and the Department of Energy's (DOE) Technical Evaluation Committee applying for CDM support from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The submission was developed by the Global Green Power PLC - Clean Development Mechanism team and is the first to be made within the Philippines without the assistance of eternal consultants. The GPPPI application covers two 17.5 MW multi-fuelled biomass power plants in the Municipality of Mina, Iloilo on the Island of Panay. The project will deliver significant Green House Gas reduction and Climate Change Mitigation through the use of agricultural residues and waste that are currently either burnt causing carbon dioxide or left to rot in the fields causing methane. Methane and Carbon Dioxide are Green House Gasses (GHG) that contribute towards Climate Change. The project is expected to reduce Carbon by 126,524:00 tons per annum.
